Hardangerfjord cruise port guide
The Hardangerfjord is the fifth longest fjord in the world, and the second longest fjord in Norway. It is located in Vestland county in the Hardanger region. The fjord stretches 179 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean into the mountainous interior of Norway along the Hardangervidda plateau
About Hardangerfjord
Hardangerfjord is a major Norwegian fjord whose direction was guided by fractures of the Caledonian fold, distinguishing it geologically from neighbouring Sognefjord. It comprises several basins separated by underwater thresholds; the deepest basin, Samlafjorden, lies between Jonaneset (Jondal) and Ålvik, with a distinct threshold at Vikingneset in Kvam Municipality. The fjord's southern arm, Sørfjorden, transitions inland toward Sandvinvatnet and the Odda Valley, with the Folgefonna glacier plateau rising to the right.
