The largest tidewater glacier in North America, Hubbard Glacier measures 76 miles long and plunges 1,200 feet into the depths of the bay. Less than 25 miles east of the Columbia Glacier, Valdez is the most northerly ice-free port in the Western Hemisphere and the southern terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
