About Port Said
Port Said is a cosmopolitan port city on the northeastern tip of Egypt where the Suez Canal meets the Mediterranean Sea. Founded in 1859 during the canal's construction, it was historically one of the most international cities in the world and today serves as a cruise port and duty-free shopping destination.
The 1869 Lighthouse, the oldest reinforced-concrete structure in the world, stands at the canal entrance. The waterfront Suez Canal Authority headquarters is an architectural landmark. The Port Said National Museum and Museum of Modern Arts offer the city's extraordinary cosmopolitan heritage. A free ferry crosses to Port Fouad on the Asian bank — a novelty crossing between Africa and Asia. The primary shore excursion for cruise passengers is a long day trip to Cairo (approximately 3 hours each way) to visit the Pyramids of Giza and Egyptian Museum.
