About Castaway Cay
Castaway Cay (formerly Gorda Cay) is Disney Cruise Line's private island in the Bahamas, located near Great Abaco Island. Disney purchased a 99-year lease from the Bahamian government in 1997 and invested $25 million in construction. It was the first private island in the cruise industry where ships dock directly, eliminating the need for tenders. Only 55 of the island's 1,000 acres are developed.
The island offers three distinct beaches: a family beach with an activity area set 30 feet into the ocean, a cabana-only beach, and the adults-only Serenity Bay with oceanside massage facilities. The snorkeling area contains two retired submarine vehicles from Walt Disney World's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride. Activities include bicycle rentals, personal watercraft, parasailing, volleyball, and basketball.
