The Caribbean is the rare cruise region with no off-season. Ships run Eastern, Western, and Southern itineraries every week of the year, everything between a quick Bahamas hop and a two-week grand voyage. That makes timing the real decision: the winter dry season brings the calmest seas, while the summer-to-autumn hurricane months carry the risk the fare curve quietly prices in. Island-hop past Jamaica, the Bahamas, or St. Lucia in either season. The weather, not the map, is what changes.

Best time to cruise Caribbean

Sail in November — the Caribbean’s dry, calm season at fares 25% below July.

The Caribbean sails all year, so the real question is when the weather, the seas, and the fares line up. Across 7,473 upcoming sailings, the answer is the winter dry season. Roughly December through April you get 85°F sun, the calmest water of the year, and no hurricane season to dodge. Fares inside that window bottom out in November at $119 per person per night. That runs 25% below July, and it holds until summer demand and the June–November hurricane season take over. The true rock-bottom is September at $108. That price is real: it's the market pricing in the statistical peak of hurricane season.

Hours per day

This close to the equator, daylight barely moves. Reckon on about 11 hours in December and 13 at the June solstice. The seasonal signal in the Caribbean isn’t light; it’s rain and hurricanes, so watch those instead.

The honest answers

The worst month

September and October, if you need a plan you can count on. They carry the lowest fares of the year. They also carry the statistical peak of Atlantic hurricane season, which the National Hurricane Center centres on September 10. A storm rarely hits your exact port in your exact week, but itineraries do get rerouted, and it’s a gamble you’d be taking with eyes open. November is the wettest month by the numbers, but the hurricane risk is already fading.

Cruising with the whales

The Caribbean hides a winter wildlife draw most cruisers miss. Humpback whales gather off the Dominican Republic from January to March to breed and calve, concentrating at Silver Bank and Samaná Bay. A mainstream cruise won’t promise a sighting, but a February sailing through the northern Caribbean puts you in the right water at the right time.

Caribbean cruise timing — questions answered

What is the cheapest month for a Caribbean cruise?

September has the lowest median fare, at $108 per person per night across 507 sailings. That's 32% below July. The catch: it falls in the peak of Atlantic hurricane season. For the lowest fare without the storm risk, take November. It runs $119, 25% under July, and sits inside the dry season.

What months should I avoid for cruising the Caribbean?

August through October carry the highest hurricane risk, peaking around September 10. Sailings usually finish fine, but itineraries can be rerouted, so those months are excluded from our verdict. If you sail then, it’s a knowing trade of certainty for the year’s lowest fares.

What time of year is the Caribbean Sea the calmest?

December through April is the dry season. Tropical storms are gone, rainfall drops to just over 2" a month at San Juan in February and March, and the seas are at their flattest, with daytime highs of 83–86°F.

When is the best time to cruise the Caribbean to avoid hurricanes?

December to May sits outside the June–November Atlantic hurricane season. Within that window, November pairs dry-season calm with the lowest fares ($119/night). February is the pick if flat seas matter more than price.

How much does a 7-day Caribbean cruise cost per person?

At current median ‘from’ fares, a 7-night sailing runs roughly $833 in November and about $1,106 in July. For a balcony, figure $1,136 to $1,563. Taxes and fees vary by line.

Is February a good time to cruise the Caribbean?

It’s the strongest month overall: near the driest skies of the year (2.1–2.4" from February into March), calm seas, 84°F, no hurricane risk, and humpback whales breeding off the Dominican Republic. It’s high season, so fares aren’t the year’s lowest. The weather earns it anyway.

Is December a good time to cruise the Caribbean?

Weather-wise, yes. The dry season is back, seas are calm, and it's outside hurricane season. But holiday demand packs the ships around Christmas and New Year, so late December runs among the priciest weeks. Sail early December, before the holiday peak, for the best of both.

What is the most expensive month for a Caribbean cruise?

July, at a median of $158 per person per night. School-holiday demand meets hurricane-season supply. Balconies run about $223 a night in July versus $162 in September.
