Why this route stands out

A closer look at the journey

Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles is a huge city with a thousand facets and attractions, one of the most stimulating urban centers that can be visited ever. Your MSC World Cruise will take you on the discovery of a place that has no equal, with its golden Pacific beaches, theme parks from the film world and walks down Sunset Boulevard with the Walk of Fame and its various museums. Los Angeles is perfect for those who enjoy shopping, entertainment and relaxation for a truly unforgettable vacation. What will the main stops on your MSC Cruises excursion be? No doubt a visit to Beverly Hills, the exclusive center of fashion and beauty where you can admire a multitude of homes in full California style. This residential area is famous for its proximity to Hollywood and for being home to many movie stars, as well as for hosting some of the most beautiful restaurants, shops and hotels in the world. And how could you not visit impressive Malibu, the seaside town in the west of the coast of Los Angeles. The beaches here are the best for swimming and sunbathing, thanks to the beautiful landscape that accompanies them, the jagged mountains of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Not far from Malibu is Santa Monica, another glittering attraction known for its famous Luna Park that was built on the pier in 1909. This bustling city is also popular for its climate, the beauty of the coast, the efficiency of its services, its clubs, shops and lively pedestrian streets that are full of street artists who have made Santa Monica one of the main destinations of Los Angeles. With MSC Cruises, you will have the chance to see one of the most beautiful cities in the world with your own eyes.

Catalina Island, California

Catalina, one of California's Channel Islands, lies offshore about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Los Angeles. The island's distinctive landscape—a mix of mountains, canyons, beaches and coves—is mostly undeveloped outside the charming port town of Avalon. Here you'll find a beach community with a Mediterranean flair reminiscent of a quieter time, and one that seems far from the traffic and bustle of Los Angeles. Sailboats bob in crystal-clear waters in the crescent-shaped bay, and the main street is lined with boutiques and restaurants in brightly painted bungalows. You can easily explore Avalon in a few hours, as nearly everything is concentrated in a few blocks. That leaves the afternoon for exploring the rest of the island. Purchased in 1919 by William Wrigley, Jr., the chewing-gum magnate, Santa Catalina Island (to use its full name) once served as the spring training ground for the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Today most of the island is owned by the Catalina Island Conservancy, which works hard to preserve its flora and fauna, from Catalina Island foxes to the bald eagles flying overhead and the schools of bright orange Garibaldi fish swimming in the bay. Ensenada

Ensenada, the third-largest city in the state of Baja, and its environs are famed for many things. One is the sunny and mild weather, which helps yield fine wines considered to be the best in Mexico. Another is the surf. Ensenada boasts several celebrated surfing spots, including San Miguel Beach and Three Ms, or Tres Emes. A third lure is off-road racing, with the Baja 1000 being held every year in November and the Baja 500 taking place in June. Rivaling Carnival in Rio and Mardi Gras in New Orleans is Ensenada’s Carnaval, bringing thousands of revelers to the streets for six fun-filled days. Migrating gray whales draw their fair share of travelers as well. Certainly, this is only a partial list of Ensenada’s seasonal and perennial attractions. During your visit, you are sure to discover additional reasons Ensenada is called the “Cinderella of the Pacific.”
