Famous bars offer views of the port along Quai Jean Jaurès, with its iconic cherry-red directors' chairs. Here you can admire the monstrous wealth of yachts that sparkle on the waters. On the same corner, big-name brand labels glimmer in the shops of rue François Sibilli - which cuts inland from the charming waterfront. The earthier appeal of boules clinking and thumping into the ground can be enjoyed at Place des Lices, where sun-wrinkled locals compete. Saint Tropez has a few beaches of its own, but famous stretches like Pampelonne Beach draw the biggest crowds to relax on star-studded golden sands. La Ponche, the authentic fishing quarter, retains its cobbled, historic elegance, and a 17th-century, hexagon-shaped citadel watches over the city and coastline from above. Coastal walks in the sea air snake away from the city’s bustle, and a series of headlands shape the stunning riviera landscape surrounding Saint Tropez. Savona
Above the port of Savona, the Priamar Fortress greets every departure and arrival of the Costa ships sailing in the Mediterranean. Genoa and its aquarium are nearby.
The port of Savona, which you can explore during your cruise in Italy, is one of the prettiest of the Italian Riviera. The lovely climate, summers that are never to hot, mild winters and the exceptional beauty of the sea near the town makes Savona an excellent base to set out to explore Liguria. Savona is notable for the Priamar Fortress, which has dominated the town since the 16th century, and also for its historic centre where you can visit Savona Cathedral. A stop in Savona can also be an opportunity to visit the nearby city of Genoa and its narrow, picturesque streets, known as “caruggi”.
La Spezia
The seafaring culture of the port of La Spezia dates back to Greek times. The pearl of the Ligurian Levant is a favourite destination for many tourists from all over the world, attracted by the natural and historical beauties that surround it.
On a cruise to La Spezia, you can explore the treasures of the coast. Start your visit from the city itself by strolling along the via del Prione in the old district or under the palm trees of the Passeggiata Morin on the promenade, perhaps while sampling a Ligurian focaccia. Looking out to sea you will see the famous Gulf of Poets, written about and praised by the major figures in literature. Costa Cruises will take you to Porto Venere, with its church of San Pietro rising up at the top of the peninsula and the colourful little houses overlooking the gulf, and to Lerici, the beautiful village dominated by the castle di San Giorgio.
