Why this route stands out

A closer look at the journey

Strasbourg

Strasbourg is a major city in France and is also the capital of the Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine region. The Rhine forms a natural border with Germany. The Maas and Aar also flow through the city. The district "La Petite France" is very popular with tourists and shows old half-timbered houses on the canal. With a typical boat with a glass roof, a so-called bateau-mouche, tourists can cruise the canal and learn interesting facts about the city. The Strasbourg cathedral is the city's landmark.

Koblenz

What do you get when you cross modern rationality with southern nonchalance? Koblenz. This is where you’ll find Roman history, a high-tech research hub and a buzzing cultural scene all in one place. Don’t miss the delightful Kaiserin-Augusta-Anlagen, the southern part of the Rhine promenade. It was turned into a landscaped park with artistic historical monuments and sculptures between 1856 and 1861. If you fancy a treat, try Debbekooche. Originally eaten by those who couldn’t afford goose on Saint Martin’s Day, it is now considered a regional speciality and is traditionally served with apple sauce. Delicious!

Rudesheim

In the Upper Middle Rhine Valley – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – the town of Rüdesheim marks the end of several old merchants’ routes. This strategically important point used to be protected by four castles. Picturesque Rüdesheim is known all around the world for its outstanding wines. Make sure you take a walk through the charming little streets of the old town. Drosselgasse, an alleyway with half-timbered facades, is known as ‘The World’s Longest Wine Bar‘ and is reputed to be the most-visited tourist attraction in Germany after Cologne Cathedral. Wine cultivation was already in full swing here in Roman times – learn more about the winegrowers of antiquity and their successors at the Rheingauer Weinmuseum in the Brömserburg, an old castle. And if you want to sample the wines that are being produced today, head to the rustic wine taverns in the old town.

MS Victor Hugo

One of the most illustrious characters in French literature has given his name at this pretty 4-anchor boat which sails on the Tisza, the Sava, the Elbe, the Rhine and the Danube, rivers of great historical and cultural richness. Completely refurbished in 2019, the MS Victor Hugo is a 4-anchor boat. human dimension, measuring 82 meters long and 9.50 meters wide. It can accommodate 90 passengers, in 45 cabins arranged on two decks. Each of them has all the amenities and offers the best living conditions. The decoration is imbued with romanticism. The mineral and bluish colors refer to the Channel Islands where the writer was exiled, while touches of brass and a few art-deco elements evoke the characteristic style of the time. Located at the level of the upper deck, the restaurant, where are served all meals during the trip, offers delicate cuisine in a refined setting, where large bay windows allow you to take full advantage of the panorama. On this same deck is also the lounge bar with dance floor, while on the sun deck, an ideal place to relax and admire the landscapes, passengers can have comfortable deckchairs, as well as a large shaded area.
