Day 1 Nov 13, 2026 Hamburg, Germany Located between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, Hamburg will fascinate you from the moment you first set eyes on its elegant and austere buildings looking onto the port, one of the largest in Europe. You should walk around the old part of town facing the sea where your cruise ship will be anchored. In Stavanger you can enjoy visiting museums. Take a stroll in the environs of Stavanger instead to explore the 23 iron figures that form the “Broken Column” a sculpture by Antony Gormley. Day 4 Nov 16, 2026 Alesund Visiting Ålesund on an MSC cruise of Northern Europe means plunging into a fairytale atmosphere. Day 10 Nov 22, 2026 Narvik Slap bang in the middle of Norway’s fjords, islands and northern wonders, Narvik, is an ideal base from which to explore this magical region. A city since 1902, it sits on the coast of Ofotfjorden inside the Arctic circle. This northerly latitude means Narvik bathes in the midnight sun during summer's months and is witness to the dazzling displays of the northern lights, which enchant as they spill across the stars. View less Crisp, clear skies make Narvik a prime destination for northern lights viewing, and the natural setting of spiky mountains and soaring fjords generates a truly glorious spectacle amid incredible staging. Gondolas sway up to the slopes of Narvikfjellet ski resort, which can tempt with fantastic skiing, but also provides a prime spot for views of the lights flashing above. Look out over the vast panorama of the town curving along the fjord's banks, the Fagernesfjellet mountain, and - hopefully - the emerald spread of the natural light display. Polar Park Arctic Wildlife Centre grants Norway’s wildest animals - including wolves, bears and lynx - with a protected haven. Elsewhere, a vast railway, which once transported iron ore to the Swedish border, now provides a dramatic rumble through the best of Norway’s mountain scenery and is one of the country’s most mesmerising rail journeys. Day 12 Nov 24, 2026 Andalsnes Åndalsnes is located at the mouth of the river Rauma, at the shores of the Romsdalsfjord, one of the fjords protected as a UNESCO world heritage site. Famous in the 19th century for salmon fishing, the Rauma flows through the Romsdalen Valley widely considered some of the most breathtaking scenery in all of Norway. Although the river’s salmon stocks are now being replenished, today Andalsnes is better known as a centre of excellenece for Norwegian alpine sports. Mountaineering, climbing, hiking and even base jumping are all readably accessible. A newly opened Norwegian Mountaineering centre boasts Norway’s highest indoor climbing wall. Some 15 kms out of Andalsnes is the Trollstigen (Troll Road), a mountain road that climbs the pass between the Isterdalen and Valldal valley. It’s one of Norway’s major attractions due to the steep inclines and eleven hairpin bends, only open in the summer months. Equally exciting is a three hour round rail trip from Andalsnes to Dombas on the Rauma Railway line. A feast for the eyes from the comfort of a carriage, mountains, valleys and waterfalls come into sight, as the route follows the Rauma river. All this can be admired also from above with a ride on the Fløibanen funicular, that takes you up to the peaks of Mount Fløyen, from which it is worth walking down on foot: after crossing landscapes of rare beauty you will find yourself in the lively bustle of the fish market. You can take a walk amidst the wooden homes built on the side of the hill and along the long smau, the narrow passages typical of Bergen. Take time to visit the original wooden church of Fantoft, built in 1150 but transferred here only in 1882. Along the shores of Lake Lille Lungegårdsvann you find many art galleries and a museum with a collection of paintings by Edward Munch. In Troldhaugen instead, there is the museum-home of the most famous Norwegian composer, Edvard Grieg, who worked and lived here in a small cottage on Lake Nordås. The name Finnmarken has a proud history within Hurtigruten, with two former ships taking the same title. The first, DS Finnmarken, was a steamship built in 1912. This was replaced by the motorship, MS Finnmarken, in 1956. The former was a classic icon of elegant Norwegian sea travel, with carved wooden interior ornamentation. The latter is a showcase from the golden age of post-war coastal liners. The present-day MS Finnmarken – which sailed under the name MS Otto Sverdrup between 2021 and 2025 – was constructed in 2002 and underwent renovation in 2020. Natural Scandinavian materials like granite, oak, birch and wool were used in the refurb to create a relaxed and stylish atmosphere that adds to the premium feel while on board. To bring the ship right up to date, a 2025 upgrade has seen the pool deck refined, as well as other technical improvements implemented. This comfortable ship offers the chance to indulge yourself in the wellness area, complete with gym, treatment rooms and sauna. You can enjoy a heated swimming pool and hot tubs on Deck 7, while outdoor observation areas are located on the two middle and uppermost decks. MS Finnmarken is a hybrid-powered ship with battery packs that enable greater fuel efficiency and lower NOx and CO2 emissions. It is also equipped for shore power connectivity, which cuts emissions when docked in ports where shore power is available. On many of our voyages, you can visit and board DS Finnmarken and the first MS Finnmarken at the Hurtigruten Museum in Stokmarknes. Having been found and ‘rescued’ from a field in the Netherlands, only some interior sections of DS Finnmarken have survived, while MS Finnmarken has been fully restored to her former grandeur.
