The vessel was laid down on 11 January 2002 at Aker MTW's Wismar yard (hull 004), launched 7 September 2002, and completed 3 April 2003 at a cost of $350 million. She was christened AIDAaura by Heidi Klum at Warnemünde on 12 April 2003. Initially owned by P&O Cruises and then Costa Crociere from 2004, she operated under AIDA Cruises until September 2023. Istanbul-based Miray Cruises briefly announced a purchase that fell through, and Celestyal Cruises confirmed their acquisition on 16 November 2023.
