About Wolgast, Germany
Wolgast is a historic town in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Baltic coast, situated on the Peenestrom strait facing the island of Usedom. As a medieval Pomeranian ducal residence from 1285 to 1637 and part of the Swedish Empire until 1815, the town retains a collection of historic buildings and a picturesque harbour.
Usedom Island, connected by the Blaues Wunder bridge, offers extensive Baltic beaches and the seaside resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin. In Wolgast itself, St. Peter's Brick Gothic church and the Runge Museum (former home of Romantic painter Philipp Otto Runge) are the main cultural draws. The town's historical museum is housed in a distinctive 17th-century half-timbered building.
