Wajima is a city on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, facing the Sea of Japan. The city is world-famous for its Wajima lacquerware — among Japan's finest traditional crafts — and the morning seafood market (Asa-ichi). The Noto Peninsula coastline features dramatic rocky shores and traditional fishing villages called Senmaida (thousand rice paddies) carved into cliff terraces.
