About Torngat Mountain National Park
Torngat Mountains National Park is Canada's largest national park in Atlantic Canada, covering 9,700 km² of rugged Arctic Cordillera in the northernmost tip of Labrador. The park encompasses dramatic mountains, fjords, and coastline sacred to the Inuit people, who know these lands as Nunatsiavut — 'our beautiful land'. Accessible only by charter aircraft or boat, it offers an unparalleled wilderness experience with polar bears, caribou, peregrine falcons, and hundreds of archaeological sites dating back 7,000 years.
The Torngat Mountains are the highest in mainland Canada east of the Rockies, with Mt. Caubvick/D'Iberville topping out at 1,652 m. The park contains hundreds of archaeological sites, some nearly 7,000 years old, along with Moravian Mission remains and Hudson Bay Company trading posts in Saglek and Nachvak fjords. Wildlife watching is exceptional — polar bears, caribou, peregrine falcons, golden eagles, ringed and harp seals, and humpback whales are all present. Day hikes, multi-day backpacking, kayaking, and cultural excursions with Inuit guides are offered through the Torngat Mountains Base Camp.
