Toliara is a city in Madagascar. It is the capital of the Atsimo-Andrefana region, located 936 km southwest of national capital Antananarivo. The current spelling of the name was adopted in the 1970s, reflecting the orthography of the Malagasy language.

Toliara is a port city on the southwest coast of Madagascar, gateway to one of the most arid and unique landscapes on the island — the Spiny Forest, dominated by the octopus tree (Didiera madagascariensis). The Reniala Private Reserve and the Arboretum d'Antsokay protect the endemic flora. Mozambique Channel diving is excellent.
