Toba, Japan cruise port guide
Toba, located at the northeastern end of the Shima-hanto Peninsula in Mie, flourished as the castle town of the Kuki family who ruled this region from the 16th century. It was also a landing spot for visitors on the sea route to Ise-jingu Shrine and belongs to Ise-Shima National Park.
About Toba, Japan
Toba is a city in Mie Prefecture on the Ise-Shima Peninsula, famous for its pearl industry pioneered by Mikimoto Kōkichi — the cultured pearl inventor. The Mikimoto Pearl Island with its demonstration of Ama female pearl divers, and the proximity to the sacred Ise Grand Shrine (Jingū) — the most sacred Shinto shrine in Japan — make Toba a culturally rich port.
