Tasiilaq, Greenland cruise port guide
The largest town in East Greenland, Tasiilaq is known for its calving glacier and immense floating icebergs. The Sermilik Fjord, the second largest in all of Greenland, is best explored by boat tour, kayak, or by hiking the mountains where the famed Valley of Flowers is blooming with arctic thyme, dandelion and the broad-leafed willow. Whale watching, dog sledding, skiing and snow shoeing are favorite pastimes here.
About Tasiilaq, Greenland
Tasiilaq (formerly Ammassalik) is East Greenland's largest settlement, a town of about 2,000 people set among spectacular fjords and mountains near the Sermilik Fjord. The East Greenland Inuit culture is among the most traditional in the Arctic, and the red and yellow wooden houses of the town are brightly painted against the barren landscape. Icebergs from the Helheim Glacier fill the fjord.
