Tagbilaran is the capital city of Bohol Province in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines and the main gateway to the island. Bohol is renowned for the Chocolate Hills geological formation, Philippine tarsiers, Panglao Island diving, and heritage Spanish colonial churches. The city pier handles over 4,000 travellers daily.
The Chocolate Hills in Carmen are the island's signature landmark. The Philippine Tarsier Foundation Sanctuary in Corella provides guided encounters with this rare primate. Panglao Island, a 20-minute drive from Tagbilaran, offers world-class diving at Alona Beach with dozens of dive operators. The Bilar Man-Made Forest, Baclayon Church (one of the oldest stone churches in the Philippines, though damaged in the 2013 earthquake), and the Loboc River cruise round out most day-tour itineraries.
