Shingū is a port city on the Kumano Coast in Wakayama Prefecture, gateway to the sacred Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Hayatama Taisha Grand Shrine, Nachi Falls (Japan's highest single-tier waterfall), and the surrounding ancient cedar forests make it a spiritually significant port call.
