About San Juan del Sur
San Juan del Sur is a Pacific coast port town in southwestern Nicaragua, set on a beautiful crescent-shaped bay about 140 km south of Managua. It is the only cruise port on Nicaragua's Pacific coast and serves as the gateway to Granada, Nicaragua's colonial gem on Lake Nicaragua. The town is popular for surfing and fishing, and a massive Christ of Mercy statue overlooks the bay from the northern headland.
Granada (100 km, approximately 2 hours) is the signature shore excursion: a beautifully preserved colonial city with Spanish baroque churches, horse-drawn carriages, and access to Mombacho Volcano and the Isletas of Lake Nicaragua. Closer to town, the Cristo de la Misericordia provides dramatic views. Surf beaches north and south of town are accessible by water taxi or ATV rental.
