About Sami, Cephalonia, Greece
Sami is a port town on the eastern coast of Cephalonia (Kefalonia), the largest of the Ionian Islands in western Greece. It serves as the main gateway for ferries connecting Cephalonia to the Greek mainland and Ithaca, and is a port of call for cruises exploring the Ionian Islands. The area is surrounded by dramatic karst scenery including the famous Melissani Cave and Lake.
The unmissable Melissani Cave (3 km from port) features a boat ride across an underground lake lit by filtered sunlight. Drogarati Cave, 4 km away, showcases magnificent stalactites. Antisamos Beach, also nearby, is one of the island's most photogenic spots. Day tours to Argostoli (the capital), Assos Castle, and Myrtos Beach (widely considered Greece's most stunning) are popular excursions.
