Rio Negro cruise port guide
The Rio Negro, or Guainía as it is known in its upper part, is the largest left tributary of the Amazon River, the largest blackwater river in the world, and one of the world's ten largest rivers by average discharge.
About Rio Negro
The Rio Negro is the major northern tributary of the Amazon River, and Manaus—capital of the state of Amazonas—sits at its confluence with the Amazon. The Meeting of the Waters (Encontro das Águas), where the dark tea-colored Rio Negro meets the sandy-beige Solimões River and flows side by side for several kilometers without mixing, is one of the Amazon's most iconic sights. Amazon river cruises frequently call at Manaus, using the port as a homeport or port of call.
Manaus has an equatorial climate with no true dry season, though June-November sees relatively less rainfall. Temperatures consistently exceed 30°C with high humidity year-round.
