Portsmouth is a port city and naval base on England’s south coast, mostly spread across Portsea Island. It’s known for its maritime heritage and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The dockyard is home to the interactive National Museum of the Royal Navy, the wooden warship HMS Victory, where Nelson died in the Battle of Trafalgar, and HMS Warrior 1860. The Tudor ship Mary Rose is also conserved in a dockyard museum.

Portsmouth is Dominica's second-largest town, located on Prince Rupert Bay on the northwest coast. A new cruise ship jetty at Prince Rupert Bay has significantly increased cruise ship calls and tourism to this formerly depressed community. The Indian River, flowing through lush rainforest to the bay, is one of the island's top ecotourism attractions.
The Indian River boat tour is Dominica's most iconic excursion from Portsmouth. Cabrits National Park combines Fort Shirley ruins with a scenic peninsula and diving at the Cabrits Drop. The nearby Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring Trafalgar Falls, Emerald Pool, and the world's second-largest boiling lake.
