Porto Torres is a comune and a city of the Province of Sassari in north-west of Sardinia, Italy. Founded during the 1st century BC as Colonia Iulia Turris Libisonis, it was the first Roman colony of the entire island.

Porto Torres is a port city on the northwest coast of Sardinia, founded in the 1st century BC as the first Roman colony on the island. The town features significant Roman archaeological remains and is the gateway to the Asinara National Park. The port of Porto Torres is the second largest seaport of Sardinia.

The Antiquarium Turritano (Via Ponte Romano, 99; €2 entry, or €3 combined with archaeological area) houses impressive Roman artifacts. The Basilica di San Gavino is a landmark example of Pisan Romanesque architecture. The Asinara National Park, accessible by shuttle boat, is a pristine nature reserve and former high-security prison island now teeming with albino donkeys and rare wildlife.
