Port Royal, Jamaica cruise port guide

About Port Royal, Jamaica

Port Royal is a historic coastal town at the tip of the Palisadoes peninsula at the mouth of Kingston Harbour, Jamaica. Once the largest and most prosperous city in the Caribbean, it was largely destroyed by an earthquake and tsunami in 1692. Today it is a small fishing community and heritage tourism destination with extraordinary pirate-era history.

Fort Charles, dating to the 1650s, is the best-preserved of Port Royal's original five forts and houses the Maritime Museum. The partially submerged archaeological site preserves layers of 17th-century colonial life. A short ferry ride reaches Kingston, offering the Bob Marley Museum, Devon House, and the National Gallery of Jamaica.
