Oulu is a city in central Finland, where the Oulujoki River meets the Bay of Bothnia. Its waterfront square, Kauppatori, is home to food stalls and the Toripolliisi, a squat policeman statue. About Oulu
Oulu is Finland's fifth-largest city and the unofficial capital of northern Finland, situated on the Gulf of Bothnia at the mouth of the Oulujoki River. Founded in 1605, it combines a rich cultural heritage with modern innovation — the city is a major hub for technology and research. For river and coastal cruise visitors, Oulu offers the historic Toripolliisi statue in the market square, Oulu Cathedral, the Lyceum secondary school, and the revitalized riverside Rotuaari pedestrian mall. The city's urban area has a population of around 209,000.
