Normandy cruise port guide
Normandy is a region of northern France. Its varied coastline includes white-chalk cliffs and WWII beachheads, including Omaha Beach, site of the famous D-Day landing. Just off the coast, the rocky island of Mont-Saint-Michel is topped by a soaring Gothic abbey. The city of Rouen, dominated by Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen, is where military leader and Catholic saint Joan of Arc was executed in 1431.
About Normandy
Le Havre is the gateway port to Normandy and Paris, France's largest container port and second commercial port by overall tonnage. The cruise port accommodates all sizes of world cruise liners and serves as a gateway to Normandy's D-Day beaches, historic Rouen, and the French capital.
The D-Day landing beaches of Normandy—Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword—are the primary shore excursion, 70-150 km from Le Havre. The medieval city of Rouen, approximately 90 km away on the Seine, features its soaring Gothic cathedral painted famously by Monet and the historic site of Joan of Arc's martyrdom. Paris is accessible by train via Rouen for day excursions. Mont Saint-Michel, the iconic island abbey, is a popular extended shore excursion. Within Le Havre itself, the Docks Vauban commercial center and Jean Nouvel-designed Les Bains Des Docks swimming complex add modern appeal.
