Narsarsuaq, Greenland cruise port guide

Meaning the Great Plain this city enjoys unimpeded views of endless green fields and verdant slopes and explains why Erik the Red chose the name Greenland when he settled here in 985. To this day the ruins of the Norse era are clearly visible, as are the reconstructions of Erik's farmstead and Thjodhildur's Church. In the village of Igaliku lie the ruins of the Viking's Cathedral and the Episcopal Bishop's Farm.

About Narsarsuaq, Greenland

Narsarsuaq is a small settlement of 123 inhabitants in southern Greenland, built around a former US military air base (Bluie West One) constructed in 1941. Its deep-water sea port can accommodate cruise ships, and the settlement serves as a gateway for glacier hikes, Norse heritage sites, and the unique Greenlandic Arboretum. The airport historically served as South Greenland's international gateway, though it is being replaced by a new airport at Qaqortoq in 2026.
