Nain, Canada cruise port guide
Nain or Naina is the northernmost permanent settlement in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, within the Nunatsiavut region, located about 370 kilometres by air from Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
About Nain, Canada
Nain is the administrative capital of Nunatsiavut, the Inuit self-governing region in northern Labrador, Canada. It serves as the primary jumping-off point for expeditions to Torngat Mountains National Park — the largest national park in Atlantic Canada. Accessible only by small aircraft or coastal ferry, Nain attracts expedition cruise ships exploring this remote Arctic wilderness.
The primary draw is Torngat Mountains National Park, where the highest mountains in mainland Canada east of the Rockies plunge into fjords on the Labrador Sea. Hundreds of archaeological sites, some 7,000 years old, dot the landscape alongside Moravian mission remains and Hudson's Bay Company trading posts. Wildlife watching for polar bears, caribou, seals, and peregrine falcons is outstanding. All visitors must register, complete orientation, and travel with Inuit polar bear guards.
