About My Tho
Mỹ Tho is a city in the Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam, 70 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Traditionally the gateway to the Mekong Delta, it is a popular stop on Mekong river cruise itineraries, known for boat trips on the Mỹ Tho River, visits to the four islands (Dragon, Tortoise, Phoenix, and Unicorn), and its famous hủ tiếu noodle soup.
The Four Islands — Dragon, Tortoise, Phoenix, and Unicorn — are the principal draw for cruise visitors, each offering boat landings that lead to orchards, honey bee apiaries, coconut candy workshops, and floating fish farms. Vĩnh Tràng Temple, a 19th-century pagoda with an eclectic fusion facade, is the city's most photographed religious site. The riverside market at night sees catfish and dried seafood traded for Ho Chi Minh City's wholesale markets. Hủ tiếu Mỹ Tho, a clear pork-and-seafood rice noodle soup distinct from the Saigon version, is the essential local culinary experience.
