Miyake-jima, Tokyo, Japan cruise port guide
Part of the Okinawa (or "Churashima" meaning beatuiful islands) prefecture, this tropical haven is home to some of Japan’s most breathtaking beaches, ideal starting points for snorkeling along the coral reefs. And while aquatic adventures of most any kind are a centerpiece of Miyako-jima’s charm, exploration along the cape, into the wetlands and botanical gardens, and to the vast sugarcane fields is also an enlightening experience.
About Miyake-jima, Tokyo, Japan
Miyakejima is one of the Tokyo Islands located about 180 km south of Tokyo in the Philippine Sea. The island is part of the Tokyo Metropolis and is known for its active volcano, Mount Oyama (Oyama), which last erupted in 2000, forcing the complete evacuation of all 3,800 residents. The island features tropical scenery, diving, and birdwatching but requires gas masks due to ongoing volcanic emissions.
