The city is a river cruise destination famous for Beale Street (birthplace of the blues), Graceland (Elvis Presley's home), Sun Studio, and the National Civil Rights Museum. Founded in 1819 by John Overton, James Winchester and Andrew Jackson, Memphis played a key role in the US Civil Rights Movement - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated here in 1968.
