Mayotte cruise port guide
Mayotte is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and the coast of Mozambique. It’s a department and region of France, though traditional Mayotte culture is most closely related to that of the neighboring Comoros islands. The Mayotte archipelago is surrounded by a coral barrier reef, which shelters a lagoon and marine reserve that are popular diving destinations.
About Mayotte
Mayotte is a French overseas department and region in the Mozambique Channel in the western Indian Ocean, consisting of Grande-Terre and Petite-Terre islands. The largest city and prefecture is Mamoudzou, and the Dzaoudzi–Pamandzi International Airport is on the smaller Petite-Terre island.
Mayotte's primary attraction is its enormous coral lagoon — considered one of the world's finest — offering diving, snorkeling, and seasonal humpback whale watching. The lagoon has a double barrier reef (the only such formation in the Indian Ocean). Boat tours explore the lagoon's islets and mangrove channels. The colorful Mamoudzou market and the ferry trip to Petite-Terre and Dzaoudzi round out a day ashore.
