About Marigot, Saint Martin
Marigot is the capital of the French Collectivity of Saint Martin in the northeastern Caribbean. While larger cruise ships typically use Philipsburg on the Dutch Sint Maarten side, Marigot serves as the commercial and administrative center of the French north, known for its open-air market, Fort Louis, and French dining culture.
Fort Louis (1789) overlooks Marigot harbor and is a short uphill walk from the waterfront market. The French side is renowned for fine dining in Grand Case — considered to have the best food culture in the Caribbean. Orient Bay (Orient Beach) offers powdery sand and a permissive beach atmosphere. The Simpson Bay Lagoon, the Caribbean's largest, borders the French–Dutch boundary.
