Mackinac Island is a small, car-free island in Lake Huron at the Straits of Mackinac, Michigan. It is a unique living slice of 19th-century America — motorized vehicles are banned and transport is by horse-drawn carriage or bicycle. The island is reached by passenger ferry from Mackinaw City or St. Ignace and features Fort Mackinac, Victorian Grand Hotel, and the famous Mackinac Island fudge shops. Small Great Lakes cruise ships call here as a tender port.
