Maastricht cruise port guide
Maastricht, a university city on the southern tip of the Netherlands, is distinguished by its medieval-era architecture and vibrant cultural scene. In its cobbled old town, is the Gothic-style church Sint Janskerk, and the Romanesque Basilica of St. Servatius houses a significant collection of religious art. On the banks of the Maas River, bisecting the city, lies futuristic-looking Bonnefanten art museum.
About Maastricht
Maastricht is the southernmost city in the Netherlands, capital of Limburg province, and by many considered the most beautiful city in the country. Located on both sides of the River Meuse (Maas), it has a uniquely cosmopolitan character — famous for its 'Burgundian' way of life, 1,677 national heritage buildings, exceptional dining and shopping, and as the birthplace of the Maastricht Treaty that created the euro. River cruise ships moor on the Meuse within walking distance of the cobblestoned medieval center.
Maastricht has a temperate maritime climate, warmer than much of the Netherlands due to its southerly position. Spring through autumn is the best season for river cruising, with summer offering the most outdoor café culture.
