Loen, Norway cruise port guide
About Loen, Norway
Loen is a small village in Stryn Municipality in Vestland county, situated on the southern shore of Nordfjorden in western Norway, approximately 6 kilometres northeast of the cruise port village of Olden. The surrounding Nordfjord district is a major tourist area, with access to dramatic fjord scenery, glaciers, and mountain landscapes. Nearby attractions include the Briksdalsbreen glacier, a popular hiking destination and arm of the vast Jostedalsbreen ice field.
The standout natural excursion from the Nordfjord area is the Briksdalsbreen glacier, located about 25 kilometres south of Olden at the head of the Oldedalen valley. Briksdalsbreen is an accessible arm of the Jostedalsbreen glacier and a well-established hiking destination. Olden village, 6 kilometres from Loen, also offers a supermarket, gift shops, and two historic churches — the Old Olden Church (1759) and Olden Church (1934).
