Lautoka is Fiji's second-largest city and the main maritime gateway for western Viti Levu, situated on the west coast of the island approximately 24 km north of Nadi. Nicknamed the "Sugar City" for its historic sugar cane industry, the Port of Lautoka is the second-largest port in Fiji and primarily handles bulk cargo—sugar, molasses, woodchips, petroleum and gas—while also welcoming cruise vessels from lines including Celebrity Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. The working-port character is complemented by tropical botanical gardens, highland trekking, and a vibrant local market.

The Botanical Gardens provide an accessible introduction to Fiji's tropical flora and are among the city's most-cited visitor stops. Active passengers can pursue the Mt Batilamu and Abaca Trekking route into the highlands above the city. The historic Lautoka Sugar Mill — founded in 1903 and still employing some 1,300 workers — is a compelling landmark for passengers interested in Fiji's plantation heritage and industrial identity. Lautoka Market offers a vivid cultural and shopping experience, while the Hare Krishna Temple is a welcoming cultural call, particularly on Sundays when visitors may be invited to share lunch.
