This captivating slice of Dominican Republic tropics is found on the island’s southeast coast, and your Carnival cruise to La Romana takes you right there. Comb the cobblestone streets of a re-created medieval village, hunt for craft treasures, and soak in the pampered luxury of Casa de Campo, the 7,000-acre resort conveniently located next door. It’s this mix of culture, shopping and fun in the sun that makes cruises to the Dominican Republic — not to mention La Romana — some of the best bets in the Caribbean.
About La Romana
La Romana is a modern cruise port on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, owned and operated by Central Romana Corporation since its inauguration in December 2002 with the arrival of the Costa Marina. The facility features two dedicated docking berths capable of simultaneously hosting two large cruise ships, and functions as both a regular port of call and a turnaround homeport for European fly-cruise operators — particularly German and British lines. The port's prime appeal lies in its proximity to the exclusive Casa de Campo resort and the atmospheric medieval village
The area's headline attraction is Casa de Campo, one of the largest exclusive resort complexes in the Caribbean, situated close to the terminal and encompassing world-class golf, private beaches, and a full-service marina. Immediately adjacent to the resort is Altos de Chavón, a faithfully reconstructed 16th-century Mediterranean village perched above the Chavón River, featuring artisan workshops, a Roman-style amphitheater, and the iconic church of St. Stanislaus. Catalina Island, sitting directly opposite the city, is accessible by boat and a natural extension of a La Romana call. The beachfront villages of Bayahibe and Dominicus provide additional resort-style beach options, while Punta Cana — approximately 80 km to the east — broadens the excursion radius further.
