About La Goulette

La Goulette is the port of Tunis, set on a narrow sandbar between Lake Tūnis and the Gulf of Tunis approximately 12 km east of the Tunisian capital. In addition to cruise and passenger traffic, the port handles cargo, ferries to Europe, and bulk commodities, though a formal development plan calls for its eventual specialization as a port exclusively reserved for passenger and tourist traffic. The TGM suburban railway and taxis provide fast, direct links to downtown Tunis and the adjacent heritage coastline.

Within La Goulette, the Fort de la Goulette — a kasbah built in 1535 by Charles I of Spain and seized by the Ottomans in 1574 — and the Ouzara Barracks provide historical grounding. The town's dining streets offer immediate options for passengers seeking local color: L'Aquarius serves grilled fresh fish and couscous with mains at 12–15 DT; La Sirene, directly across from L'Avenir, allows guests to select live fish by weight from the adjacent fishmonger for around 10 DT all-in; and Ma mie Lily, a cozy Tunisian-Jewish restaurant just off Ave. Habib Bourguiba, is noted for all-Mediterranean cooking.
