About Koper
Koper (Capodistria in Italian) is Slovenia's only seaport and fifth-largest city, located on the northern Adriatic Sea. Founded in Roman times, the city flourished under Venetian rule from 1279 to 1797, leaving a legacy of Renaissance architecture. The Port of Koper is Slovenia's sole commercial port and an important Mediterranean cruise destination, handling 125,276 cruise passengers in 2024.
Koper has a sub-Mediterranean climate with warm, sunny summers and mild, wet winters. The cruise season runs from April through October, with summer months offering reliable warm weather. The karst region can be windy, particularly with the Bora wind that occasionally sweeps down from the northeast.
