Kennedy Island is a small uninhabited island in the Solomon Islands that was named after John F. Kennedy, following an incident involving Kennedy during his World War II naval career. Kennedy Island lies 15 minutes by boat from Gizo, the provincial capital of the Solomon Islands' Western Province.

About Kennedy Island

Kennedy Island is a small island in the Solomon Islands, associated with the WWII story of Lieutenant John F. Kennedy, whose PT-109 patrol torpedo boat was rammed and sunk by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri on August 2, 1943. Kennedy and ten crew members swam to the uninhabited island and were eventually rescued.
