Hebrides, Scotland cruise port guide
In Scotland, arrive in Stornoway and begin an unforgettable Hebridean adventure. The harbor town is the portal to discovering a dramatic island landscape and it's the epicenter of Gaelic culture. Prehistoric standing stones dating back millenniums and Iron Age brochs are just some of the amazing sites you can take in. Stornoway is the largest town in the Outer Hebrides, and it's a harbor town which comes with plenty of charms of its own. Get introduced to Gaelic arts, literature and music and island traditions at the town's arts hub and at the new museum, or browse independent shops for locally-made crafts and unique gifts. See skilled islanders produce Harris Tweed, luxury hand-woven wool which has been crafted on the island for generations.
About Hebrides, Scotland
Stornoway is the main town and only urban centre of Scotland's Outer Hebrides, a sheltered natural harbour settlement on the Isle of Lewis with Viking-era origins. The port's new deep water terminal, contracted in April 2022, accommodates vessels up to 360 metres against a backdrop of Lews Castle and working fishing quays. Passengers step ashore within walking distance of the entire town, where Gaelic culture, Harris Tweed shops, and access to the wider landscapes of Lewis and Harris await.
Lews Castle overlooks the bay and its surrounding grounds contain 20 miles of woodland bike trails freely open to visitors. An Lanntair arts centre hosts the Hebcelt festival across multiple town venues each July. The Iolaire Memorial at Holm is a moving stop for passengers interested in Scottish history, marking the site where 205 men were lost on New Year's Day 1919. Stornoway Seafari runs wildlife boat trips from May to mid-October. Stornoway Golf Club offers a par-68 visitor round at £40 on Lady Lever Park. Harris Tweed is available by the metre or as finished goods from multiple town-centre retailers. The Hebridean Way long-distance trail terminates near Stornoway for hikers and cyclists.
