About Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising five tiny, picturesque fishing villages — Corniglia, Manarola, Monterosso al Mare, Riomaggiore, and Vernazza — perched precariously on rugged, rocky hills tumbling into the Mediterranean along the Ligurian Riviera di Levante. The area forms part of the Cinque Terre National Park and, together with Portovenere and the islands of Palmaria, Tino, and Tinetto, is one of Italy's 58 World Heritage Sites. The Via del Amore is the area's signature excursion: a long, winding clifftop path that links all five villages, offering panoramic vistas of the sea from considerable heights — not recommended for those wary of heights. The Cinque Terre National Park protects the surrounding terraced hillsides planted with vineyards and olive trees. Of the five villages, Vernazza is singled out as perhaps the most picturesque, while Monterosso al Mare offers the area's largest stretch of beach. The region's literary heritage is strong — Byron, Shelley, Ezra Pound, and Ernest Hemingway were among those inspired by its landscapes — adding cultural depth to the natural spectacle.
