About Chilean Fjords
The Chilean Fjords encompass a dramatic scenic cruising corridor along Chile's southern coast, threading from Cape Horn (55°S) to the Reloncaví Estuary (42°S) through the famed Patagonian channels. Ships navigate glacially carved fjords and remote archipelagos past iconic glaciers including San Rafael, Pio Xi, and Agostini, with Puerto Williams—the world's southernmost city—serving as the primary port of call for expedition cruise lines.
The primary draw is expedition glacier cruising: ships approach San Rafael Glacier within its national park via a 16 km scenic fjord, and also visit Pio Xi, Agostini, Piloto and Nena, Jorge Montt, Bujo, and Amalia glaciers. The waterway network—Peel Fjord, Seno Eyre, Agostini Fjord, Calvo Fjord, Cockburn Channel, Baker Canal, Canal Sarmiento—delivers a succession of abrupt high shores, headlands, and peaks of remarkable, gloomy grandeur. In Puerto Williams, the Martin Gusinde Anthropological Museum chronicles the indigenous peoples of Tierra del Fuego; the historic Micalvi pontoon now anchors the yacht-club social scene; and the Cape Horn Sub-Antarctic Center (CHIC), inaugurated in 2022, adds a striking architectural landmark with research and interpretive facilities. Cerro de la Bandera offers panoramic views, while the Dientes Circuit and the Lago Windhond trail are the premier trekking routes for well-prepared adventure passengers. The Ukika neighborhood shelters the Yaghan community, one of the world's southernmost indigenous groups, and is a key cultural stop. Charter overflights of Cape Horn are also available from Guardiamarina Zañartu Airport.
