Bremerhaven is Germany's primary North Sea cruise homeport, where approximately 90% of the 230,000-plus annual cruise passengers are embarking or disembarking on turnaround sailings. The Columbus Cruise Center (Columbusbahnhof), managed by Global Ports Holding since January 2025, handles ships up to 350 m and is flanked by a walkable waterfront museum quarter including the Deutsches Auswandererhaus, the Schifffahrtsmuseum, and the Klimahaus. Easy rail links connect the port to Bremen (30 minutes) and Hamburg (1 hour 45 minutes).

The Deutsches Auswandererhaus (German Emigration Center) is consistently rated one of Germany's most immersive museums, built on the very quay from which more than seven million emigrants departed for the Americas; it is a natural first or last stop for any passenger spending time in port. Directly nearby, the Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum holds one of Europe's most comprehensive maritime collections, including full-size historic vessels in an outdoor harbour. The Klimahaus Bremerhaven 8° Ost delivers a walk-through experience of global climate zones along the 8th meridian, making it a standout family attraction. Harbour boat tours provide close-up views of the vast container terminal and the car-transshipment centre — the largest in Europe — that give the port its industrial identity. For excursions afield, Bremen's UNESCO-listed Marktplatz with its medieval Rathaus and the Roland statue is a half-day trip by rail, while Hamburg's Speicherstadt and Elbphilharmonie justify the longer journey for passengers with a full day ashore.
