Bohol cruise port guide

Bohol is an island province consisting of Bohol Island and 75 minor surrounding islands. Its capital is Tagbilaran City. With a land area of 1,589.7 sq mi and a coastline 162 mi, Bohol is the tenth largest island of the Philippines. In the 1600’s, the Jesuits introduced Christianity to the region. They built huge churches, which were declared heritage sites in the early 2000’s. Unfortunately most of these churches were heavily damaged by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake of 2013. Today, some of these churches are being restored.

About Bohol

Bohol is an island province in the Philippines' Central Visayas region, celebrated for its surreal Chocolate Hills geological formations, Philippine tarsier sanctuaries, and world-class diving at Panglao Island. Tagbilaran serves as the provincial capital and main point of entry, connected by Panglao Island International Airport and the busy Tagbilaran City Pier with frequent ferry services to Cebu, Dumaguete, and Manila.

The Chocolate Hills in Carmen, Batuan, and Sagbayan are Bohol's headline draw, with at least 1,268 individually named mounds of marine limestone rising 30–50 m from the plain. The Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella (7.4 ha, managed by the Philippine Tarsier Foundation) provides guided viewing of Carlito syrichta in a low-disturbance setting. Panglao Island's southern coast — particularly the Alona Beach strip — hosts numerous dive centres serving one of Southeast Asia's premier underwater environments. The Loboc River cruise departs from Loboc town and includes a buffet lunch and performance by the acclaimed Loboc Children's Choir. Marine wildlife tours offer dolphin and whale watching, best from March to June though active year-round. Baclayon Church and other heritage stone churches scattered across the island add a colonial-era cultural layer. The Bilar Man-Made Forest, a roadside mahogany canopy en route to the Chocolate Hills, is a standard itinerary stop. The Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape provides trekking and biodiversity encounters inland.
