About Angra Dos Reis, Brazil

Angra dos Reis is a coastal city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, set on the Bay of Ilha Grande dotted with more than 300 tropical islands. The region is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site 'Paraty and Ilha Grande,' inscribed in 2019. The nearby historic town of Paraty—a preserved Portuguese colonial and Brazilian Imperial municipality—is accessible from Angra dos Reis by boat.

Ilha Grande offers pristine beaches and Atlantic Forest hiking. Paraty's historic center, with its cobblestone streets and colonial churches, looks much as it did in the 1800s; at full moon the streets flood with seawater through openings in the seawalls. The Caminho do Ouro (Gold Trail) offers guided hikes through Atlantic Rainforest to tropical beaches. Bay island boat tours and snorkeling are primary cruise excursions from Angra dos Reis.
