Barcelona
On the northeast coast of Spain, overlooking the Mediterranean, Barcelona is a vibrant port city, packed with centuries of iconic art and architecture—Gaudí and Picasso both called it home—and lined with sunny white-sand beaches. Explore the Catalan capital's tourist attractions and historic neighborhoods, Modernisme and world-renowned art museums, galleries and local crafts shops—some of which are centuries old and stock traditional Catalan wares. After you see the sights, there are lively tapas bars around every corner where you can stop for a drink, a café amb llet (Catalan for espresso with steamed milk) or a snack, no matter the hour. Green spaces for picnics, long walks and respite from the hustle and bustle are scattered throughout Barcelona's attractions: There's Gaudí's mosaic-decorated park, a neoclassical maze at the Laberint d'Horta, as well as plenty of high places (mountains, monuments and edifices) where sightseeing visitors can take in the view. A short trip from Barcelona by car or train, luxury outlets, cava wineries, a mountaintop abbey and the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean coast await.
Gibraltar
Gibraltar is one of the most famous places in the world, linked to numerous legends. Here, the Mediterranean ended and with it the world, but fortunately today we know that’s not the case.
Its strategic position meant that it was disputed over for many centuries by the seafaring nations who had political and commercial interests between Europe and Africa.
The Spain cruise to Gibraltar reveals the charm of this colony with its Rock overlooking the sea where Neanderthal remains have been found, and where a rare breed of macaques roam free. The Rock is the main natural attraction for the number of plant species that flourish on its slopes (as many as 600!) and its colonies of migratory birds. The movements of storks and birds of prey are sight not to be missed and are thrilling to watch as they fly in flocks.
More good reasons to climb to the top are the view from the Rock, a panorama that spans two continents set against the beautiful colours of the sea, and a visit to the monument to the Pillars of Hercules. In addition to the natural attractions, don't miss a walk to Europa Point, the lighthouse that still guides ships safely, and a shore excursion to the caves of St. Michael, caves that form the stage to numerous concerts and performances due to their perfect acoustics.
Lanzarote, Spain
Lanzarote - also called the island of eternal spring - is one of the seven main islands of the Canary Islands, along with Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro. The island is located in the northeast of the archipelago, only 140 km from Morocco. Here the power of nature meets the energy of the art of César Manrique. Nobody has shaped Lanzarote with his works like the architect and artist from Arrecife. The island's capital is not a classic beauty, but those looking for the Canary Islands and Spain's way of life will quickly find it here.
From Arrecife you can easily explore the Canary Island of Lanzarote: All destinations and beaches can be reached with the shuttle bus in a short time. Discover the fascinating lava landscape of the Fire Mountains, the wonderful Papagayo beaches or drive to the Mirador del Rio, a lookout point designed by Cesare Manrique at an altitude of 475 m. From there you can admire the rugged beauty of the Canary Island, which has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1993.
