Why this route stands out

A closer look at the journey

Fixed editorial images from the places on this itinerary. They stay stable each time you return to this sailing.

Johannesburg

Johannesburg, South Africa's biggest city and capital of Gauteng province, began as a 19th-century gold-mining settlement. Its sprawling Soweto township was once home to Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Mandela’s former residence is now the Mandela House museum. Other Soweto museums that recount the struggle to end segregation include the somber Apartheid Museum and Constitution Hill, a former prison complex.

Kasane

Kasane is a town in the northeastern corner of Botswana, near the borders with Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It's the gateway to Chobe National Park, known for the herds of elephants which converge on the Chobe River in the dry season. Caracal Biodiversity Center shelters rescued wildlife. The Chobe Crocodile Farm is nearby. East of town, the Kazungula Ferry crosses the Zambezi River, connecting to Zambia.

Chobe National Park

Chobe National Park is in northern Botswana near the vast, inland Okavango Delta. It's known for its large herds of elephants and Cape buffalo, which converge along the Chobe Riverfront in the dry months. Lions, antelopes and hippos inhabit the woods and lagoons around Linyanti Marsh. The floodable grasslands of the Savuti Marsh attract numerous bird species, plus migrating zebras.
